Summary
Rock Identifier helps you identify rocks and minerals from photos.
The default mode runs on your device (Core ML) and does not upload your photo.
An optional Online mode sends a cropped JPEG to our server so Google Gemini can suggest an ID.
Data we process
- On device: photos and identification history stay on your iPhone (SwiftData / local storage). We do not receive those photos.
- Online mode (opt-in): the cropped specimen image is uploaded over HTTPS to our API (
rock-identifier-api.xultrai.com) and forwarded to Google Gemini for analysis. We do not use Online uploads to train our own models.
- Purchase / Premium: handled by Apple (StoreKit). We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Ads (free Online use): Google AdMob may collect device advertising identifiers and diagnostic data per Google’s policies when ads are shown.
- Support email: if you contact us, we process the message content you send.
Retention (Online)
Online requests are processed to return a result. We aim not to keep full specimen images long-term.
Short-lived server logs may include timestamps, approximate size, status codes, and model metadata — not a permanent photo gallery.
Third parties
- Google (Gemini API) — Online identification only
- Google AdMob — ads for free Online usage
- Apple — App Store, StoreKit subscriptions/purchases
- Cloudflare — CDN / Pages for this legal site and HTTPS edge for our API tunnel
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. Do not use Online mode to upload photos of people.
Your choices
- Stay on On device to avoid photo upload.
- Delete local history in the app (when available) or by deleting the app.
- Manage Apple subscriptions in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Limit Ad Tracking in iOS Settings where applicable.
